Thomas Thurloway at the Open Championship
As the Club newsletter has had a break over the summer months, we missed one of the biggest stories that we have been desperate to share with you! That of our Member Thomas Thurloway qualifying for the Open Championship 2019.
Having progressed through final qualifying at Notts Hollinwell Golf Club, Tom secured his place in the Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club in July of this year.
Tom lined up alongside the world’s best players at the world’s biggest tournament.
Tom and his caddy Harry Bayley (also a Chartham Park member) went to Portrush on the Sunday prior to the Open Championship allowing for a few days practice and some valuable time to get used to the impressive and very challenging golf course.
The Chartham Park duo played some holes with Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Brooks Koepka and Russell Knox over the practice days which would have been a fantastic experience.
In a field of world-class players, Tom, unfortunately, missed the cut but showed great character and resilience despite adverse weather conditions and an extremely tough golf course.
Chartham Park is very proud of Tom and his achievements to date which include his win in the 2018 English Amateur Championship and qualifying for his well-deserved place in the 2019 Open Championship.
I’m sure you will join all of us at Chartham Park in wishing Tom continued success for many years to come.
