News from the Health Club
You may remember hearing about member Roger Bandtock and Team Safari Njema who planned to paddleboard the English Channel in July and raise valuable funds for Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. But, due to weather, wind and jet streams they were unable to complete their challenge in July and were on standby for 3 months.
However, they finally received the call and COMPLETED the Channel Crossing on 22nd October 2019 in 6 hours and 29 minutes!
They left Rye Harbour at 7am, starting the SUP (stand up paddle board) challenge from Dungeness at 7.20am. The journey took them across the busiest shipping lanes in the world and at one stage they were accompanied by a pod of dolphins for 15 minutes. They arrived in Boulogne Harbour at 1.49pm, returning safely to Rye Harbour on the Rib which took 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Please find attached a summary of their adventure in the gallery below.
Roger and his team are so grateful for everyone’s support and send a massive thank you for all donations to date. If you would like to make a donation, please visit JustGiving at:
