I think you’ll all agree, it’s been a tough winter with the rainfall we have had. In 2019, we had 968mm of rain fall on the golf course. 480mm of that fell between October and the middle of December.
The Greenkeeping Team have been working extremely hard ensuring that drainage channels and ditches are flowing as well as they can. We are hand cutting the greens weekly to 4.5mm.
At the end of January, we undertook work to do an initial dredge of the first part of the 16th lake to assist in the drainage of the 16th fairway. We are also completing works to the left of the 7th fairway in the woods to direct water flow away from the course from the surrounding woodland.
Whilst we have been battling this winter, we have managed to repair some of the fence along the roadside and also completed some clearing jobs in the woodland beside 11 and 12.
As we move into February, we hope for drier and warmer weather. The wear and tear on the course is fairly minimal due to the lack of play, the long term protection of the course being the priority.
To all our golf members, we appreciate your ongoing understanding, support and patience. We hope to get you all back out to play as soon as it is safe to do so.
